As you may know, the MontagueMA.net website turns ten years old this month, and we're having a party. It'll be at the Rendezvous, this Saturday from noon to 5:00pm out in the parking lot if the weather holds out. If not we'll hold it inside. There is an after party from 5:00 till 9:00 inside.
I'm hoping someone can show up with a video camera. Don Clegg and Jon Duda are busy with a camera and the boom mike at the Discovery Center shooting the wolf program. I'm hoping to at least get the bands taped, if not also some of the crowd and the announcements.
I can't do it since I'll be running the party.
Anyone available? It would be great. I'll buy you lunch and give you a MontagueMA.net tshirt for the favor.
Tomorrow there is a Special Town Meeting, held at the high school. We have some last-minute openings for volunteer producers to fill if they can. Please call the station between 2:00 and 6:00 today and ask Robin what you can do to help.
MCTV is looking for crew to do camera work during the Turners Falls Block Party this Saturday between 3:00 and 10:00 PM. We will be broadcasting LIVE -- the whole party. You could take an hour or two, or help sit at the table where we’re selling snacks and goodies. Or do interviews. Or just hang out and keep us company.
If you’re around on Saturday and can help out, please call the station and let us know. 863-9200
This was posted to the MontagueMA.net website by Don recently. Take it to heart! -Mik

Hey all,
For about a year I have been involved with MCTV with producing shows, running cameras at town events and meetings and generally having a great time. However we could really use some new ideas for shows or features, and assistance with events. Dean and Robin at the station are just great to work with and some new producers seem to have an interest in helping with events but I don’t think it is enough. I am just amazed there is so little interest out there for our own Community TV station. I believe once you start getting involved and enjoying yourselves like I have then you will wonder why it took you this long.
For example from now until the end of May these are the sort of events that could be worked on and presented to MCTV (and this is just what I know about):
o Ten potential events that could be taped a the Discovery Center ranging from the Coffee House Music Series to Children’s concerts with Chip Wood to science presentations and then the Great Falls Arts fest and tours.
o At least two school plays;
o Library events including Music and Movement and live Emus at the Carnegie;
o At least three nights of Valley Idol;
o Montague Talent Show;
o Memorial Day parade and ceremony;
o And lets not forget the Special Town Meeting and the Annual Town Meeting.
I didn’t know anything about camera work or producing a year ago, now I have worked on over 60 events and almost all of them by myself.
Come into MCTV station on Friday, April 20 @ 12:30, or Tuesday, April 23 @ 6:00 to meet some of the producers and see if we can win you over with some interest in YOUR community TV station’s efforts to bring local programming to you.
Local control over public access channels, rights of way, and equal access are in jeopardy thanks to phone companies’ attempts to change the rules. They want to exclude you and your neighbors from the process.

If anyone is interested in creating an entry and submitting it to this festival please stop by the station (34 2nd Street, TF, Mon-Fri, 2-6) and the friendly staff will help you get set up to shoot your very own 100-second (or less) video for submission in this international contest! -Mik

MCTV is looking for musical talent for the next shooting of Montague Music Train, Tuesday January 30th. This is an informal jam-session kind of show where participants discuss the structure of the music they’re playing and perhaps even the history of it. If you play an instrument (which you bring with you) and know how to explain what you’re doing, even if you’re a novice, we want you. All participants can get their contact info posted at the end of the show if you tutor, etc.
We’re also looking for a couple of people to operate the cameras and perhaps the switcher as the show is taped. Everyone will get production credit.
Please contact Dean or Robin at the station if you intend to participate: 863-9200
Signing up on the website just allows you to subscribe to certain email delivery options. To be a member of the station you need to stop by during business hours and fill out the form. To borrow a camera and tripod you need to take a training, or have someone who has already taken the training borrow the equipment. There are a few producers who may be able to do this for you the first night. If you intend to do this on a regular basis (which would be an excellent idea) then you should get a staff member or local volunteer to be the producer of the series, and come in and chat with Dean or Robin about the logistics of having a regular show. It’s pretty easy, but needs to be coordinated with the station to make sure the equipment is available when you need it.
The open mic is actually for Jan 20 so if we could borrow a camera that would be great. I also did sign up on the MCTV internet site. Does that make me a member of MCTV or is there more to it?
Thanks, Zak. We have someone coming over to pick up the stuff and return with one working machine.
Hey, did you guys get a camera for the cafe’s open mic last night? You really should become a member of MCTV and sign up for equipment when the open mics happen, or get someone from the community to do it for you.
Also, to let you know, MCTV is launching its underwriting / sponsorship campaign this month and will be looking to local businesses for show or station underwriting.
Just thought I would mention if you didn’t know about Freecycle. If you have items to get rid of that might be of use to someone else it can be posted on Freecycle. It’s a great way to reduce waste going to the landfills.
Tuesday night we shot our first episode of "Montague Music Train."
The show aims to have local musicians come in and either jam and chat, and do some on-air tutoring, showing chords, fingering, progressions, a little theory, etc. You should assume the audience is an aspiring musician that is just starting out and may want to play along.
We are looking for guitarists, fiddlers, mandolinists, floutists, banjoists, hamonicers, um... singers, bongoists, ers, um... you get the idea. Pianists too if they have portable keyboards with speakers. Space is limited to probably no more than six of so individual players.
The above could include a band, if they can play acoustically or have limited equipment and want to simply practice in front of the cameras, or have full performances.
We are also looking for camera operators and people to operate the switcher and the titler. These are all simple, fun jobs, and once you’re trained (takes just a few minutes) you can do it for your own projects too.
It looks like we will be shooting this show every other Tuesday and airing it the following week. We start shooting Tuesday the 30th. So spread the word. We’re looking for talent and fun.
MCTV is looking for volunteers to help clean up the studio.
Tuesday, January 16, 6:00
We need as many hands on deck as possible. We’ll order pizza (Roberto’s) and soda.
The cleanup includes the following:
o Everything off the floor and onto the storage shelves
o Put tapes into better looking boxes
o Remove old computers
o Re-organize the front room (mini-shelf for TV, moving fridge, etc)
o Vaccuum
o Mop studio floor
MCTV has a few computers that need to be recycled. There are four "shells," three of which have motherboards etc. We have been meaning to consolidate them all into one machine and recycling the rest but haven’t had the time.
If you are proficient with repairing PC-based computers and would like to gain some spare parts by making one of these four machines usable and keeping the rest, please contact Dean Garvin at MCTV: 863-9200 or here:
Don’t forget next week, Tuesday January 9, 7:00 PM, we’re meeting at the station to talk about TV shows, crewing, equipment, etc. Come and chat and meet the others who do the voodoo that they do so well.
One topic will be to coordinate the new "Music School" weekly show with rotating talent. Tell everyone you know that knows how to play an instrument that they can hang out at the station once a month (or more) to be on the show and "teach" how to play a song on whatever instrument they feel comfortable with. Hopefully we can have two or three people take turns during a show.
Don’t forget tomorrow, Tuesday Nov 21, 7:00 PM, we’re meeting at the station to talk about TV shows, crewing, equipment, etc. Come and chat and meet the others who do the voodoo that they do so well.
We are in need of producers to shoot three of the five School Forums coming up. These should be single camera shoots, with the boom mic. Total equipment: camera, mic, tripod, mic stand, a small monitor and a bag containing the cables and headphones you will need.
Thursday, Oct 26, 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Gill Elementary School
Wednesday, Nov 1, 3:30 - 5:00 PM
Sheffield School Library
Thursday, Nov 2, 6:30 - 8:00 PM
